Corduroy 02:34
Bookmark girl takes a taste; she sticks her tongue into the paste. Pissing in the yellow bus will ruin it for all of us. Trademark apple, pocket comb; notebook stickers, going home. Bobby’s brilliant, Susie’s cool- see them kissing after school! “Come and feel my Corduroy”, he says to her. The shadow boy is watching you. Come and run on the field at three I’ll chase you down if you want me to catch you… and I’ll catch you if I can. Crispy chicken afternoons, the special smell of diesel fumes vinyl seats in cars of brown will slowly wash the sunshine down. Meetcha at the pizza shop for sugarshakes and sodapop; the waitress looks like Marilyn Monroe, and she says they all think so. On the playground, slides and swings are hip, and so’s that metal rocketship we play on. At recess on the monkeybars, pretending we are movie stars, we push & fall into the dirt ‘cause no one can get really hurt! Bookmark girl, she takes a taste; she sticks her tongue into the paste. Pissing in the yellow bus will ruin it for all of us. Meetcha at the record shop for some groovyacidboogiepop; the waitress looks like Marilyn Monroe and she says they all think so. Disappear 03:25
You found me just in time; I like the way you motion up to heaven with your eyes. And you are so so fine; the sun it seems to burn a little brighter when you when you walk yourself on by, you can see your smile reflected in my eye until I blink & you disappear. I can’t see in your mind; if you would only stay with me awhile, you might find this is not what you think; I know that you would understand if you could see me when you walk yourself on by, you can see your smile reflected in my eye until I blink & you disappear. Hands 04:46
Hey~ it’s a long way back to where you first started from. Hey~ you didn’t travel all this way just to reach me, now didn’t you want this, want this to be everything that it never was? How can you come so close & still be so far away? After all this time has just escaped me once again, and I only have myself to share the blame, it’s still a mystery how it slipped right through my hands once again…. Hey~ it’s cold in here; could someone get a flame burning in the fireplace? Hey~ would you listen to me breathing in the cloud of smoke that surrounds your face~ now I can’t see you. Are you talking to yourself again? Is it a lonely trait of consequence? Do you ride upon a chariot of love & hate, or are you straddling the fence? If you’re too late, then you already know; there’s nothing you say that your actions don’t show. And you think it’s better if they find you then when they constantly remind you of your place in the sun…. if you don’t dream, you can’t run. Suffer 03:28
SUFFER What else can we do? I still want to be a part of you. We don’t have to try to be more than this, holding on to nothing. What is there to say- soon we’ll be so far past yesterday. We can’t even cry when we embrace, holding on to nothing. You didn’t have to shatter all we had; nothing really matters when you’re sad. We can’t do the things we want to do; it never really hurt as bad when you made me suffer. Why else would you cry- we don’t have to speak to say goodbye. You don’t want this solitary life; it’s all for nothing. Why do you insist that this is wrong? I can’t find the space where we belong. You can’t have the things you hope & dream, leaving you with nothing. You didn’t have to shatter all we had; nothing really matters when you’re sad. I’m only so afraid that you will be closer to the truth that it was me who made you suffer. Anyone can see that this is not the way it used to be; There is only you, and there is me, holding on to nothing. You didn’t have to shatter all we had; nothing really matters when you’re sad. I’m only so afraid that you will find excuses that I tried to hide behind when I made you suffer. Robbie Gennet © 1997 Brown Earthling Music All Rights Reserved

One 03:03
I kinda figured I’d been away for too long. But wait ‘til the morning, and you’ll never notice I was gone, and we shall be as one. You weren’t always afraid to be lonely by yourself. But now that you’re with me you can’t be with anybody else, and we shall be as one. You’ve been alone and nothing changed until you saw my face~ I’m back again. And now the memories are real and we are one. So close the door now and pull the shade; can you remember all the love we made? It’s rushing back, it’s in our veins and we can’t hide our feelings from the pouring rains. I’m back again, and we are one. Robbie Gennet © 1997 Brown Earthling Music All Rights Reserved

Orange Bear 01:53
Orange bear- he has orange hair. Trampolines help the orange bear achieve his dreams. Am I just being realistic saying God is optimistic? Purple cats- they wear purple hats. Motorcars drive the purple cats to nudie bars. Am I just being realistic saying God is chauvinistic? There was a time he would play 29 records a day and all the people would say he was throwing his life away… Orange bear shaved off all his orange hair. Tangerines taste as bitter as his broken dreams. Am I just being realistic saying God is pessimistic? Am I just being realistic saying God is atheistic? Downways 01:49
It just totally slipped my mind and now I can’t remember what it is I can’t find. I’m having to wake up in the middle of the night to the touch of nothing but the light of the moon. And someone’s pretty happy to see me down. And I may be down, but I’m already on my way- I’m on my own way down. I have finally made up my mind to meet you in the back so I can show you the kind of love I like to make when I see you in the night and I take a little bit of time ‘til it’s right. And someone’s pretty happy to see me tonight, even thought I’m down. Yes I am already on my way- I’m on my own way down. Robbie Gennet © 1996 Brown Earthling Music All Rights Reserved

Soulflower 05:55
Two souls sitting under a lamp post. Hot coals right beneath my feet, I wear a sheet and I’m a blue ghost. And there will be enough for you to share, my darling. You can ask for anything, and there will be enough time to get over your beautiful soulflower. White bone sticking out of a payphone. Call home; whisper that you miss her and the busy signal just drones on and on and on… I spend my days tracing butterflies in mayonnaise, painting pretty pictures posed in Polly’s perfect ways. She spends her time in a glittery bath of ruby wine, licking lovely lemondrops to pass away the time. And she holds the end of the rope in her hand, and she can’t make sense what she don’t understand. She can’t do nothing when she’s tied up with fear- she’s paralyzed like a frozen tear. Remember You 03:18
I miss you. I really miss you. I really miss the way you lied to me and told me it’s ok, and that’s the way I will remember you. I love you. I really love you. I really love the way you held me through the night until the day, and that’s the way I will remember you. And you shined through me like a star, and all this light deceived me. And I know exactly who you are, but no one else believed me anyway. Robbie Gennet © 1997 Brown Earthling Music All Rights Reserved

Friends 04:03
Veronica, you’re better than Betty and maybe I’m ready to watch you bleed. I know you; you’ve got everything but I’ll give you something and I think it’s what you need… And you got your friends, and the sun is going down, and you’re looking with your heart, and the world is spinnin’ ‘round. And what will become of it all in the end? And who will you get for your friend? And why can’t you show yourself; why do you always pretend? You’re special-like; just the way the boys like. I hear you like to get around- I hear you’re all right. And who wouldn’t want to meet you in a restaurant, or look behind your pillowcase? I bet its outta sight. : And you got your friends, and the sun is going down, and you’re looking with your heart, and the world is spinnin’ ‘round. And what will become of it all in the end? And who will you get for your friend? And why can’t you show yourself; why do you always pretend? And someone said the looking glass will show all the pretty, pretty starlight that the world may never know. I wouldn’t want you locked up in a cage at such a tender age… And you got your friends, and the sun is going down, and you’re looking with your heart, and the world is spinnin’ ‘round. And what will become of it all in the end? And who will you get for your friend? And why can’t you show yourself; why do you always pretend? about

These songs were recorded in my home studio between 1996-1998 in the wake of the dissolution of the Robbie Gennet Band. I lived in NYC for a brief period in 1997 and set up my Tascam 488 cassette 8-track in the tight corner of her living room with a keyboard, bass, guitar and my trusty Alesis SR16 drum machine plus a Shure58 and my Zoom 9030 effects box for vocals. I recall "Orange Bear" was written around my NYC time while "Disappear" was written in LA on tour with 7Mary3 later that year.
